The Food Interest Group has a goal of increasing our local food capability. We want to be able to feed ourselves without so much reliance on global supply chains. Watch this short video - The Story of Food - to understand why.
Feeding ourselves involves a wide range of skills and resources, many of which are reduced or have been lost in a local context.
Last year we did a couple of projects involving preserving food. This year we are going to start from the beginning, with workshops on the basics - preparing soil, seeds and seedlings, planting and growing - for a basic set of vegetables.
Join in with us at our Neighbourhood Garden project - a joint project between Knox Presbyterian Church, Today's Family Early Learning and Child Care and Dundas in Transition. We break ground on Manday May 17th, 2010 with the help of the Katimavik volunteers currently working in Hamilton.
